There are a lot of questions that should go into choosing a farrier. Some of these should be is he dependable, not only for showing up on time but also at times when you have questions in between appointments? Is he/she experienced in the discipline in which your horse performs at? Can he/she detect small problems in early stages and correct them before they become big problems? Also, are they respectful to you and your needs? Is he or she a certified farrier? Plus a thousand of other questions that your farrier should be more than happy to answer without hesitation.
As farriers we take on certain responsibilities to our customers. Can we fulfill the needs of the customer? Are we able to be there for them in a professional manner? We should also be open minded when it comes to advice given to us by our colleges, veterinarians, and customers. We should go out of our way to answer any and all questions that the client should have. And if we do not have the answer we should point them in the right direction as best as we can. We, as farriers, are in the service trade and some have lost that frame of mind. Some farriers have got to the point of forgetting that our customers are depending on us to do our job to the best of our ability for them and their equine companion.
